The Grey Album
[Archived in Entry]
[betED Blog] If you dont have it yet, go grab the Grey Album. DJ Dangermouse mixed Jay Zs Black Album with only cuts from the Beatles White Album. This is the hot stuff, it sounds even better than the Pharrell did producing the original. Entertainment Weekly called it the #1 Record of the Year for 2004.

[Why You Gatta Lie] LADIES AND GENTLEMAN IT'S HATER TUESDAY: She also seemed a little uncomfortable on stage, at least while she was singing. After her song she immediately started interacting with the crowd, she got so caught up that when they came back for her last song all the anchors were huddled in the corner semi laughing at her including Diane Sawyer. They were mumbling about how "she could run the show by herself, no need for an anchor" then there was a unanimous "Oh shit we're on...we better get her singing now" vibe that errupted from the anchor huddle. Then Charles Gibson or whatever his name is came rushing across the stage to "introduce" Mariah but really he just sorta tapped her on the shoulder to let her know "we're on...you are performing Make It Happen" Mariah giggled crazily and then immediately broke into song, but not before telling a fan in the front row, "I LIKE YOUR SHIRT....
[Diskogodfather.blogspot.com] Jeremy's Portfolio: April 2004: There is no doubt that The Grey Album has a rock vibe to it. The highlight of the album was the remix of the Rick Rubins production, “99 Problems.” Rubin is best known for launching the careers of Beastie Boys and producing the Run DMC and Aerosmith classic, “Walk This Way.” In Danger Mouses version, he removes the modern day guitar riffs and replaces them with George Harrisons guitar work from “Helter Skelter.” Bringing this Beatles classic together with Jay-Zs ferocious lyrics captures the awesome energy of the album perfectly.
[Hyperkinetix.com.my] The Simple Life: he Grey Album is an art project/experiment that uses the full vocal content of Jay-Z's Black Album recorded over new beats and production made using the Beatles White Album as the sole source material. Danger Mouse insists he can explain and prove that all the music on the Grey Album can be traced back to the White Album and its musical content via sampling. Every kick, snare, and chord is taken from the Beatles White Album and is in their original recording somwhere. This Incredible re-interpretation will be one to look out for and will be made available worldwide around Feb/March of 2004.
[Music.channel.aol.com] AOL Music: DJ Mash-Ups and Remixes: NYC mash-up posterboy DJ Reset has gone mainstream with his brilliant, major-label-released fusion of Beck's 'Debra' and Jay-Z & Pharrell Williams' 'Frontin'' called 'Frontin' on Debra.' Check out the mash-up, then listen to the original versions of both songs. Can you tell how Reset put them together?
[Azcentral.com] Enjoying their music blended: The mash-up in some form or another has been around for a decade, but the scene crystallized for outsiders last year when Danger Mouse, a record producer, completed his aptly named "The Grey Album" -- a mashing of the Beatles' so-called "White Album" and Jay-Z's "Black Album." It was an underground sensation and a legal sore spot -- the custodians of Beatles music quashed its widespread release as a CD, a very public reminder to mashers that although their hobby isn't illegal, attempting to profit from others' music without permission will put lawyers into billable-hours mode.
[Snazzy.org] Dennis Jenders' Blog: But as soon as the band got back to an old hit the crowd went wild. Although I like "Hash Pipe" I don't think it was as good as some of the songs on "Maladroit" - the bastard album that Weezer chose to forget about during the set. Not even "Dope Nose" or "Keep Fishin'". That kind of disappointed me along with them ignoring "El Scorcho" - one of my favorites.
