artists not making a dime from sites like iTunes Music Store

[ Mediacentric] In fact, that sucks nearly as bad as artists not making a dime from sites like iTunes Music Store. It seems that of the 65 cents or so that the record labels make off of each download (and use to, among other things, pay people like Hilary to make sure we’re all inconvenienced with DRM), some artists make all of a dime or so — while others aren’t nearly as lucky.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Bird's Eye Preview] Plus, If I've already bought XP....Oh, nevermind: I know it took me a while to get here, and I appreciate your patience. If I pay for a song in iTunes, I can only listen to that song in iTunes on an “authorized” computer, or on my iPod. If I were so inclined, I could burn the song to a CD, then copy the song from the CD to Windows Media Player, then I could play it anywhere, but that's a lot of work for one song. Anyway, if I steal a song, which I would totally never ever do, I can play that song anywhere.
[VoIP Watch] I Want Legal P2P TV: But in the long run they have lost their biggest test and research market, and more importantly are aiming to stave off the the advancement of technologies like BitTorrent and other decentralized peer to peer technology. Anyone would have to be a fool to think that before Apple launched the iPod and iTunes, that they didn't research the user bases of KAAZA, Napster, Scour and other download services to figure out what people wanted, how they wanted it delivered and what would make it better, before walking into the labels and asking for the licenses.
[Fizzle & Pop] Please don't be angry with me Foxy: As to an artist up and quitting due to P2P* is there a single artist, one single artist, who has given up doing what they love because they think too many people are getting their work for free? How many artists have the luxury to NOT have a day job or another means of generating income until they get going? I read once that Madonna was one of the hottest "entities" to be shared in torrents awhile back because, let's face it, everyone likes to touch a virgin for the very first time, yet I never once read that she was suddenly having to hold down a day job at McD's due to lost sales as a result of all that unwelcome popularity. In fact, didn't she just make her final payment on England a few weeks back?

[P2p.weblogsinc.com] iMixes used as protest against lack of indenpedent artists - The ...: Instead of complaining to Apple, why not complain to the Indie record labels that don't want to LOCK IN proces for 3 YEARS but want to revist the issue every 6 MONTHS! Apple built this infrastructure for them FOR FREE that you can browse to your heart's content without having to spend a dime but instead of finally having a place where you can buy music 24 HOURS a day - they only look at the downside to everything. If someone offered them free cash,m would they complain it's not shiny enough?
[J-walkblog.com] The J-Walk Blog: It was an unforgettable moment when, on September 15, 1987, he played his guitar for Pope John Paul II in Los Angeles. Born without arms, he performed a touching song entitled Never Be The Same. When the Pope approached him from the stage to kiss him in appreciation, it seemed to reflect the sentiments of the entire country.
[Oreillynet.com] iTunes: I have over 800 vinyl LP's (paid for) and about 600 CDs (paid for). Now I try to buy direct from the artists, like The String Cheese Incident or the Grateful Dead, avoiding where I can the RIAA. The RIAA are enemies of the US and some of the biggest crooks in the world, and I hope they rot in hell. And if Apple doesn't change their iTune, they'll go down in a similar fashion
[Blogmaverick.com] Yahoo forces RIAA staff cutbacks”¦ - Blog Maverick - www ...: (because as we all know, its all about CONTROL) The premise in court is (right or wrong) that the Music Industry is losing thousands per UPLOADER. That is, each song available for download is being downloaded by thousands of people, and each of those downloads costs the RIAA membership the sale of a CD. Thousands of downloads * CD sale = a LOT of cash. I dont understand how he believes I can share Britneys new single over the Guntella network (1.5 million people at last count: www.slyck.com) and only be seen as distributing 1 file, and shes only losing $5.00 in sales.
