[Brokekid.net] (via boingboing.net) Cory Doctorow: This November 3, Chicagos Northwestern University Law School will host a one-day summit for lawyers...

[nimbupani | home] An Evening With Cory!: We then wandered about and got a 20% discount voucher from Kinokuniya for filling up the "feedback survey" form about Cory's Talk. Also, this is when Cory walked up and said "I like your shirt" (or as this Deepak spitefully says "you were hovering around Cory like a butterfly").
[The Digital Music Weblog - digitalmusic.weblogsinc.com _] RIAA Hates Machinima: Machinima is the use of a video game engine to create original videos, sometimes with music soundtracks. Those soundtracks are a problem for the RIAA, which believes that nobody other than its member labels should ever promote or celebrate music.
[Ponderance] RIAA Vs Machinima: While I don't agree with the RIAA here (obviously), a move like this should encourage us to work with smaller artists who are willing to license their music and/or work with Machinima filmmakers. I worked with MTV on getting clearance with Hollywood Records/Breaking Benjamin for Still Seeing Breen, and it was a ton of leg work (I didn't even do the work myself, and I know how much work it was).
[The Abstract Factory] SCOTUS kills Grokster: The opinion goes to great lengths to point out how Grokster and Streamcast relased their applications for the purpose of inducing infringement. Streamcast marketed itself to users and advertisers as a replacement for Napster, there were internal documents from these companies which showed they were banking on the infringing uses of their services, etc.
[cinematic::rain] of leaky dams and plugging them with your finger: EFF guru, SciFi author, free speech activist and blogger extraordinaire CoryDoctorow at BoingBoing makes an impassioned argument about why anti-piracy measures like DRM are worth fuck-all in terms... to, but are corporations ever satisfied?
[Boingboing.net] Boing Boing: A Directory of Wonderful Things: While I am not willing to put a lot in the “long tail” video efforts like video blogs and efforts of start-ups such as Bright Cove, I do think there is a lot of hope for branded content online, especially if content owners can create a superior experience. I have seen some of the video-over-broadband efforts of folks like Comcast and News Corp., and that looks promising.
