DVD burner for the video rack?

„With hockey season around the corner, we'r elooking at upgrading the old VCR to a new DVD recorder (note: note a TiVO/PVR, but a VCR replacement that burns to DVD media). Anyone with suggestions on what models are good and reliable? What are the advantages/disadvantages to burning straight to DVD, or buying a model with a hard drive in it?“

„Downloaded another boatload of tracks featuring Underworld playing live; this time I downloaded their set from the Eurokeenes Festival in 1998. Can't say I liked it as much as the set from the Fuji Rock Festival. If I had to pick a favourite track, I'd go with "Rez", since I think it's better than the studio version.“http://circadianshift.net/archives/2002_05.html - Cached
„Trend watchers have been predicting PVR take-off for over 4 years; some have even stated hard drives would be in 25% of television set by 2004 (?). The technology has been around for years to simplify integration and to give folks the ability to record one channel and watch another - seamlessly - but the enablers have purposely spoonfed the public with incremental technology advancements to perhaps pay off NRE (non recurring engineering) costs and/or steer people to specific branding. Whatever the case when it all works together, no matter what the source and who's remote is being clicked people will begin to buy in!“http://www.pvrblog.com/pvr/2004/03/ intel_to_make_d.html - Cached

„Was it worth the effort to build a new PVR? Sure - it cost more than I probably should have spent (~ $800), but it can be expanded to have three tuners eventually and it'll be just a video server - humming to itself away from the TV and there are no monthly charges. I'll add a couple of Hauppauge MediaMVP's to the TVs in the house and everyone will have access to the video server - it has been claimed that the MVP can be SageTV Client with Rev 2 of SageTV.“http://www.pvrblog.com/pvr/2003/12/ lowbudget_tivo_.html - Cached

„If you look at the ethernet hacking history, eventually after a few months of tinkering people figured out a stable way to get a TiVo on a network and then they hacked in support for talking to their TiVo. Many asked for ethernet support because the modems would often fry and in many cases an installation of a phone line nearby was required. Eventually TiVo opened up a way for people to update online and now from TiVo's own site they encourage users to buy a wired or wireless ethernet device (on TiVo's end, the cost of maintaining modem banks is high, whereas sending data over ethernet is almost free).“http://www.pvrblog.com/pvr/2003/08/ video_extractio.html - Cached
