New DVD-recorders and PVRs

Pixor on 2004/02/23:

„TechTV has a round-up of the Panasonic DMR-HS2, Philips DVDR985 and Pioneer DVR-7000 DVD-recorders, and asks the question are they little more than glorified digital VCRs? These set-top recorders can transform analog or digital video into a DVD that will...“

„Not to steal thunder from Slate's Rob Walker, he of of the infinitely enjoyable Ad Report Card , but I just wanted to say, apropos of Kevin Smith's new commercials for Panasonic DVD recorders: better he makes commercials than movies. The slogan, however, should have been, "The Panasonic DVD recorder allows you to move the camera more than twice during a scene, which is more than you can say for any of my movies!"“

DVD recorders

Barry Ritholtz on 2003/09/23:

„Shopping this past weekend, I came across 3 DVD recorders - all under $500: - Phillips for $499; - Panasonic for $449; - an "off brand" for $399. That leads me to make two predictions: 1st, by Christmas 2003, DVD recorders will be $250-300. Its more than 90 days from...“

Skipping commercials: evil

Skipping commercials: evil Kayne on 2002/12/09:

„How's this for a proposal - consumers who don't like commericals can pay 1 cent per commerical skipped. I fail to see how this benefits consumers - I already can do this using my Panasonic DVD-Recorder . I don't pay by the commerical, either. I just buy a blank re-recordable DVD-RAM, set up the timer (ok, Jen actually does that bit), and that makes me one of the "bad guys", according to Comcast CEO Roberts.“
