[Blog-A-Rama] The device’s real strengths are its versatility and its bevy of connectivity options. It performs direct video recording from most sources (TV, DVD player, VCR, cable box, or satellite receiver) via the included Archos TV Docking Pod, and it offers a TV output for watching your recordings on a full-size screen. We’ve seen the video quality on the device and on a high-quality TV, and it looks very good. Other functions include music playback and photo viewing.

[Homeentertainment.engadget.com] The DV-HRW35, Sharps new VCR/DVR/DVD recorder - Home ...: That aging collection of VHS tapes is starting to get a little embarrassing, right? You’re probably not going to ever get around to watching all those old episodes of Perfect Strangers you thought were worth taping, but if they really are worth preserving, you better hope that Sharp brings the DV-HRW35, their new combination VCR/120GB digital video recorder/DVD recorder, to the States.
[Homeentertainment.engadget.com] JVCs new combination DVD/VCR/DVR. Were gonna hold out for them ...: We long ago banned all analog media from our house as part of our own personal Great Leap Forward into the digital age, but if you can’t quite let go (or have a collection of VHS tapes you still think you’re going to watch some day), JVC has a new combination DVD recorder/VCR on the waythat also comes with with a built-in 160GB hard drive. The DR-MX1S should be out soon.
[Pvrblog.com] NYT on Tivo vs. Cable | PVRblog: The cable companies are giving away for free the SA8000 cable box/DVR (a $400 box) with only a monthly fee at "penetration pricing" (i.e. pricing so cheap as to get a mass-market as quickly as possible) whereas Tivo and the other CE companies are trying their hardest to stay profitable by selling either more capable hardware or more intuitive software. If the cable companies can recoup the cost of the hardware they are giving away for free within a few years as well as learn more about their customers' viewing habits, as well as lower churn, it's clear to many people, including Wall Street, that the standalone companies are at a disadvantage.
[Pvrblog.com] Intel to Make DVR PC | PVRblog: Skim through the rest, it's not all some Intel higher-up seeing people as consumption machines (you know the old saying about the image most CEOs have of their customers? Consumers are just a big mouth that eats products and shits cash.), there's a good bit about how to publish your own photos and music to the devies in your home as well.
