[Spontaneous Monotony] Just when I thought the dark side might be winning their war against the internet, I came across this fax from thepiratebay taunting one of the so-called law enforcement agencies (the self-titled ‘Web Sheriff’) about the redesign of said BitTorrent site. It’s not a one-off either- they have an entire section of their site dedicated to humiliating anyone who tries to intimidate them: take this quote as an example:

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

http://jeremyblachman.blogspot.com [Jeremy's Weblog] I passed by "The Park Slope Food Coop" today and d...: He called the current coop shopping experience "an insult to the human species .you come into the current store and it's like a Waring blender at high speed." He said that the future, redesigned space would give a coop a "sense of unification." For instance, a matching bank of display cases will stretch across the rear walls of the three coop buildings. Soon after entering, shoppers will find an open "arena where you can catch your breath," with display islands featuring new products.

[Web.cornell.edu] Cornell University - cornell.edu Redesign: So, in the case of the logo, there are three plates (Magenta, Yellow, Black–no, I don’t know why they use a K for black…) each with an image of the logo on it. These press into the paper one at a time and if they are not perfectly aligned, you get a slight staggering effect. It’s called being “off register”

Htmldog.comhttp://www.htmldog.com [Htmldog.com] Redesign: Usability - HTML Dog Blog - HTML Dog: There are certain aspects of the HTML Dog redesign that have probably hindered usability to a tiny degree, in particular the graphical header and logo but the idea is that although usability has been compromised slightly, the end result is something that should be more successful long term (as discussed recently). On the other hand, the CSS file has been reduced by around 25% and many graphical elements have been pulled out so pages should load even faster and in that respect usability will have been increased.

http://www.telerana.f2o.org [Telerana.f2o.org] Teleraña | a web design blog presented by Chuck Mallott: it could validate and work in all browsers, but that would not guarantee that it would be a better site. When you get right down to it, web standards is just the practice of designing websites that display information to all users as consistently as possible, regardless of operating system or browser-device, screen resolution or the user's ability to browse in a conventional way.

Nuketown.comhttp://www.nuketown.com [Nuketown.com] Nuketown's Redesign -- Blog -- Nuketown: New features have been slapped onto the existing design, new features -- like "related stories" and "related nethead" links have been slapped on -- while the site navigation has been constantly tinkered with. Aspects of the original design -- like the dynamic JavaScript menus -- were ditched, sections have been renamed, and wholly new sections (like the blog) have been added. And the technology used to drive Nuketown's presentation -- a bastardized hybrid of HTML and Cascading Style Sheets -- is now outdated.
