Mini iPod

[Archived in Entry, TiVo]

http://www.chrislim.com [From the Misfiring Neurons of Chris Lim”¦.] Yay! Tivo sent me my iPod today. I’m glad I came into work! We went to go look at a prospective phone system for work today and barely made it to my 2pm meeting. Fortunately, I did as I received my Tivo etched Mini iPod! I charged it up and synced a bunch of songs to it (about 968). So far this little thing is pretty dang impressive. I’ve always wanted a mini music player but didn’t want to plunk down $250 for it and not like it 2 days later. Now I’m surfing the web to find OEM and aftermarket gizmos for it. Found several very useful sites and some very silly ones for hacks and gadgets. I’m still looking for a something that will play the lyrics when the song is playing, a good FM broadcaster, and a simple GUI interface. Yes, I think iTunes is a little clunky. Sorry, Apple. I just need something that I can easily move songs in without the Stores and cutesy other distractions. BTW, the iTunes installer failed on my laptop. I had to end task it. But the software...

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

Ishbadiddle[Ishbadiddle] Jukebo(Linu)x: It seemd that the best solution for my iPod problem would be to put most of the storage on an external hard drive. When it comes time to synch the iPod, just unplug the HD from the J(L)x, plug it into the main computer, and presto. Plus, we can use it for easy data transfer. If I download something on my laptop, I no longer need to burn it to CD-ROM or use a USB stick to transfer it to the main music repository -- just plug in the HD.

Omar Shahine's WebLog :: The included Mail application, Versa Mail, is hands down a winner over Windows Mobile. Not only can you see much more data on the screen, but small things that DRIVE ME NUTS about the Windows Mobile mail experience don't exist on the Palm. The best example is that with a Windows Mobile device, when you reply all to an email via your Exchange account, your email address is included in the reply. The excuse that I've been given over the years is that Windows Mobile doesn' t know your email address in order to remove it from replies.

Michael Swanson's Blog :: I've been spending quite a bit of time with some Avalon team members in my new position as Technical Evangelist, and one of the Avalon topics that often comes up is Data (or Information) Visualization. If you're unfamiliar with the term, it might help to read Grokking the infoviz, an older””but still relevant””article from Economist.com. I'm certainly not the person to look to for an official definition, but my own short description would be: "a method of graphically visualizing and navigating through large amounts of data." Most of the compelling demonstrations that I've seen involve some kind of animation that helps illustrate relationships and patterns in the data.

http://daddytypes.com  Daddy Types, the weblog for new dads: A couple of times when I've forgotten to bring one, I've improvised a bib by tying a plastic grocery bag around the kid's neck and tucking it into her restaurant high chair strap. Maybe that's why, when I saw this superfolding, lightweight nylon shopping bag--which my wife got as a gift--unfurled next to the kid the other day, I thought, "Day-um, that'd make a mighty fine dress. Just cut off the bottom, maybe hitch the shoulder straps together on her back to hold it on..."

http://www.decrem.com  bart's blog: Kafka On The Shore is Haruki Murakami's latest. It's a book about a boy who takes off on a quest for his past and himself. Touches of magical realism but not tacky.

Straczyk's Blog: 10/10/2004 - 10/16/2004: So, I have an ATOM feed, as provided by Blogger, for my blog. If you wish to subscribe you can use one of many ATOM aggregators. I used to use Sage because it has built in support with Firefox, which I also use. But If you use Firefox 1.0PR, there will be a little orange icon in the bottom right hand corner, if you click that little guy you will have the option to subscribe to the feed.
