Scientific Atlanta Grows From DVR Sales

[Archived in Entry]

[Reinvent TV] Much of the news in advertising and digital television revolves around the impact of the digital video recorder (DVR). Here is the financial report of just one (albeit a large one) manufacturer. Note that at the bottom of their quarterly statistics, SA added almost half as many DVR's as TiVo has total in non-DirectTV households!

Some slightly related:

http://www.princessfrozen.com [i:Open] slow down...: my moms all "well your dad had no problem cosigning for your school loans." uh, duh mom, college loan is vastly different from a debt consolidation loan. i still find it laughable that in one breath my brother asks for this consolidation loan and in the next he's asking me where to get some rims for his car. i'll be glad when he grows up. i'm thinking of taking the oldest baby (kevonnie) to disney world for his birthday in august.

[Xiaodong People] Lack of Marburg Virus Survivors Creates Civil Unrest in Angola: Canada, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore have all destroyed their samples, the WHO said, and Germany said it had disposed of its virus as well. Taiwan was said to be moving "very, very fast" to destroy the samples it had received, and Japan said its health ministry had ordered it destroyed in the nine labs that had it. The WHO was unable to confirm how much had been destroyed in US labs, which received the vast majority of the samples.

"Most of what we think we know about the climate system and human impacts on it comes from computer models that are based on hypotheses. There is a terrible deficit of real scientific information where you actually go out and gather data."

[Synaptic Junction] Updated Daily at http://mclir.blogspot.com/: Honesty and tenacity (and for that matter, the working class) seem to have taken backseats to the sort of "snappy news", sensationalism, scandal-for-the-sake of scandal crap that sells. This is not a uniquely Tribune or even newspaper industry problem: this is true from the Atlanta mixing rooms of CNN to Sulzberger's offices in Times Square. Profits: that's what it's all about now. But you just can't realize annual profit returns of more than 30 percent by methodically laying out the truth in a dignified, accessible manner.
