The hardest job of them all
[Archived in Entry, Video And Dvd, Video Dvd Releases]
Scott on 2004/03/24:
„DWM has had over a decade and a half of covering a television series that (save for the 1996 TV Movie) had no original TV content to cover. While Who-related fiction has never been in short supply -- with book series first by Virgin and then the BBC and Telos Publishing, then audio dramas from Big Finish and the perennial video and DVD releases of old classics -- such output has generally been designed to appeal to existing fans. And so, the magazine has evolved to also cater for that market.“

„Formany years these books, and DWM, were the only physical signs in mybedroom of my fandom. From the early 90s the New Adventures joined thatcollection, until round about the 20th book I decided that most of themweren't that great. From then on New Adventures, Missing Adventures, BBCBooks were bought sporadically.“http://www.pagefillers.com/dwrg/dvds2001.htm - Cached

Of course if we go down, then that's irrelevant, although the board are understood to still covet the services of former Leeds skipper and inspiration Gordon Strachan, now free after stepping down from his job at Southampton.“http://www.leedsfans.org.uk/leeds/news/ 200404.html - Cached
„Next came the Maori Land Wars where the British learned a lesson or two from the natives in the art of guerrilla warfare. After the disputes settled, New Zealand became independent from New South Wales jurisdiction; a God fearing country in it's own rights, as part of the Great British Empire; along side it's neighbouring country Australia. For nearly a century both countries coexisted under Divine blessing. Hence, the audacious nicknames ... "the Lucky Country" for O“http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/tlamb/snip3.htm - Cached
„ The Doctor is a Time Lord. Morbius died on Karn. The Cybermen arose on Mondas. Temmosus was a Thal Leader on Skaro. These are all fiction. (Fictional facts, if you wish.) What this means is that, even though 99.99% of Doctor Who fans can agree on a statement, there always remains: (a) the possibility that, somewhere, someone may disagree with it for a variety of more or less valid reasons, having to do with his personal interpretation of the often contradicting statements made on the broadcast, in the script and/or its novelization; and (b) a future writer of the program may come in at a later date and revise that bit of fiction. For example, Morbius may be brought back to life in a yet untold story (his brain was cloned); Terry Nation may reveal that Temmosus was only a figurehead (Alydon was really in charge all the time); etc. As amazing as it seems to me, with my faith in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" adage, even my first statement may no longer hold true. The creative team behind the 25th and 26th Seasons took it upon themselves to hint that the Doctor may not be a Time Lord after all, but something more powerful, more ancient, even though this directly contradicted years of somewhat irrefutable evidence! That is the problem with fiction. Trying to encapsulate it in a book of this nature is like taking photographs of shadows. Not only is it a matter of point of view, but shadows also change. So the best advice to be given to those readers who brook little disagreement with their own views of how the fictional Whoniverse should be arranged, is: read no further, go write your own book.“http://www.lofficier.com/dwfrwrd.html - Cached
