Tivo Beats Estimates

[Archived in Entry, TiVo]

[TVHarmony] There is good financial news for Tivo investors as reported by CNet. Tivo beat analysts estimates and narrowed it's expected losses for the quarter. It also increased its subscriber base by 339,000 users (72,000 of which are non-DirecTv subscribers).

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[Tvharmony.com] TVHarmony: A while ago, we reviewed ReplayRadio which will record internet radio programs similiar to a Tivo. Having a long commute, I still use it regularly to dump my favorite news and talk radio programs on to my MP3 player which connects to my car stereo, and it comes in handy to keep me calm while the traffic is snarled. It works great for recorded shows, but to my knowledge, there is no solution for live radio in a car.

Pvrblog.com[Pvrblog.com] January 2004 Archives | PVRblog: This is probably the most intense and illegal hacking how-to I've seen for TiVo. It essentially is a way to bypass the TiVo service entirely (a long-standing community no-no subject), by pulling in XML listings of canadian networks from the internet and using a heavily hacked version of TiVo to use it as the programming guide. It's so complete they even have their own logo graphics you can download and add to the TiVo system and built a web-based TiVo service emulator that your TiVo will connect to instead of the real TiVo servers. The group operates from this site, offers files only from a password-protected CVS repository, and this 1700+ member Yahoo group.

[Advancedmediacommittee.typepad.com] Emmy Advanced Media - Television Business News: November 2004: This is a pretty exciting time for Music Choice and I would strongly suggest that you read the rest of this article in the NYT.  It goes on to talk about one the technological innovations that Music Choice is putting into play.  The more interesting issues are the future-thinking business opportunities (and challenges) that await this "included service" in the near future.  Sure, other media outlets have videos and yes, other companies are getting ready to make your cell phone a media center.  But, none of the other players have the silent respect of users who just like to listen to uninterrupted formatted music.  This is going to be a very different kind of consumer control and I'm looking forward to how it's going to play out.

[Onlinereporter.com] The Online Reporter, Issue No 428 January 22-28, 2005: Yudkovitz explained his leaving: "When I joined TiVo I planned to move my family to California, but as the demands of my role grew, the need to spend even more time on both coasts grew as well, requiring a heavy commute no matter where I lived. I've chosen instead to find the most logical time to resign as president and re-acquaint myself with my wife and kids." Yudkovitz told Reuters that he is still working on alternative distribution deals for TiVo. Ramsay told Reuters, "While we are sorry he is departing, his resignation is not a change for us in terms of strategic initiative or the direction of the company, nor is it a change in terms of our focus on distribution."
