Tivo Desktop 2.1
[TVHarmony] Via PVRBlog, Tivo Desktop 2.1 is out and it is either good news or bad news depending on your viewpoint. The good news is that it support Microsoft Portable Media Center devices so you can transfer shows to those devices. The bad news is that it blacklists certain apps that made it easy for people to strip off the DRM encryption.
Some slightly related:
[MS2/KV2 Blog] Bill Gates Interview: Im not sure what you mean by the word hub there. Often we would think of the Media Center PC as being the hub and then the living room being able to connect up to all the music on the PCs in the house, all the photos on the PCs in the house, and having remote display capabilities so that if youve got video up on that PC, then great you can watch it, connect to it, set up to record it right with a remote control in the living room. So the high-end scenario for us is youve got Media Center PC, thats where your state is, but then youve got your Xenon out that are connecting up to that. Xenon itself will have some neat capabilities, but were in pre-introduction here, and that group is brilliant about the unveiling.
[FsFalcon's Crest] Now TV Obeys ME!: You may recall that I got all hot and bothered when Microsoft announced last fall that they were going to allow ordinary, everyday people to buy and install copies of Windows Media Center Edition (MCE) on their own PC's. I even talked a bit about how I was going to build my own PC and slap a copy on it. Well, it took me a few months, but I finally got around to doing just that.
[Gold Rush and Silicon Valley] California History: Golden Opportunity Did the d...: Agilent Technologies, AirTouch Communications, Ask Jeeves, Aviron, Bay Networks, BEA Systems, CNET Networks, eBay, Excite, Foundry Networks, Google, Hotmail, Hyperion Solutions, Infosys Technologies, JDS Uniphase, Juniper Networks, KLA-Tencor, Macromedia, Napster, Netscape Communications, Network Appliance, NVIDIA, palmOne, PayPal, Polycom, Rambus, Remedy, Siebel Systems, TiVo, Tularik, VeriSign, Wipro Technologies, Yahoo!
[mp on IT] ON TIVO OPTIONS: This is partially the suggestion that Om Malik is making, give away the boxes to grow the subscription revenue. Of course AOL didn't have to give away PCs, because consumers were accelerating their purchases of home PCs through that period, specifically to use the PC to go online.
