TiVo not dead yet
[TizzyD] A CNN Money report notes that TiVo will look to break even this quarter, rather than post a loss of 11 cents per share. That’s significant in the PVR market, and it could suggest a resurgence of the TiVo platform. Let’s see.

[funcentral] Death By Information Overload: Curse them, for not removing the damnable news-scrolls at the bottom of or screens, once 9/11 passed us. More to say about that in a future column, but how effective is the transmission of either the oral or text messages on CNN, when we are only paying up to 50% attention to either, at any one time? Thanks to technology, some of us can now use the picture-in-picture option of watching two television shows at once. It just gets better...with TiVo, or PVR (in Canada), we can pre-record shows on a hard-drive console, for future viewing.

[Pvrblog.com] Why PVR Technology is good for marketers | PVRblog: All the sturm und drang around personal video recorders should come as no surprise to readers of this column, who were warned more than three years ago that PVRs meant "treacherous times ahead for programmers and the marketers that depend on them." But let's parse the warning a little more carefully. In fact, TiVo and other PVRs are a boon to marketers. It's only the broadcast networks that are in trouble.

[Wiki.media-culture.org.au] User:Linda Wong - M/Cyclopedia of New Media: Written from a Spanish university, this paper was important in underlying the very fact that while PVRs have created a huge impact on the television industry within America, in all truth of the matter, the big companies like TiVo and RePlay TV have reported large financial loses, or in the case of RePlay TV, have declared bankruptcy. The paper identified the need for companies to align themselves with cable companies...however have not had much luck as companies such as Time Warner create their own version of a PVR so they do not have to pay license fees. Overall, whilst the success of the PVR does continue to grow in America, corporations must make note of the best strategic way for their company to thrive in an everyday growing, competitive market.
