Tivo v MCE
[pvrspot.com] Digital Media Hub takes an interesting look at the latest offering from Tivo and compares it with Microsofts MCE. Ive been using a TiVo...
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[ZogBlog] MCE 2005... still has a long way to go!: I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Microsoft to get on the ball since TiVo and DirecTV went sour (and TiVo has been busy imploding), and they abandoned the Ultimate TV (Microsoft's earlier PVR attempt that actually *gasp* integrated with DirecTV). When the hell are they going to get off their asses? HD PVR's for DirecTV are still floating at $1000 (and are scheduled to have a lifespan of less than 1 yr - since DirecTV is changing over from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4).
[Pvrblog.com] XP Media Center ver. 3.0 | PVRblog: One reason, perhaps, is that video-recording functions and picture quality have not been as good as on a device like TiVo. A survey by Forrester Research found that people who recorded video on their computers were less satisfied than users of specialized recorders. The article touches upon Sony's VAIO line of computers and how many have TV tuners but haven't been XP Media Center. According to Sony, their customers would rather burn recorded media to DVD than play it directly from their machines.
[Pvrblog.com] Thomas Hawk: HD Tivo vs. Microsoft's Media Center Edition Review ...: If I had it my way I never would have bought the HDTV Tivo and instead would be watching HDTV on my MCE machine right now but that did not happen and at this point it's probably too late as I'm totally in love with the HDTV Tivo and (particularly after having spent the money) would not now pay to upgrade my MCE machine or buy a new HDTV MCE.
[Msmvps.com] Chris Lanier's Blog: Most Helpful Threads/Links on TGB | Over the past few years The Green Button has grown to be a very large community for Windows XP Media Center Edition. A common problem is that there is so much content on the site, and no real FAQ or common questions database from posts in the forum. I've been working on a meta-FAQ for some of the most helpful and most viewed threads on The Green Button. This will soon is pinned on the top of every sub-forum on The Green Button. For people who want to build or buy a Media Center machine, those who have been using Media Center but have questions on common issues, and those who want to learn more TGB members and I have compiled this list. Check it out.
[Blog.mattgoyer.com] Matt Goyer's Microsoft Windows Media Center Blog - MCE 2005: "Convergence is happening, but we don't know what will win," said Joe Belfiore, general manager with Microsoft's Windows eHome division. That's just one of several quotes from JoeB who headeds up our eHome division (the one I work in) which is responsible for Media Center, Media Center Extender and some other top secret stuff.
[Blog.mattgoyer.com] Matt Goyer's Microsoft Windows Media Center Blog - MCE 2005: It's interesting to note that we already offer a click to record feature through our MCE SDK which would allow search engines to have a 'click to record' link which would setup someone's MCE box to record a show. But before I chastise Google or Yahoo for not adopting it (and possibly courting Tivo instead), why haven't we seen a convergence among Microsoft's Media Center, MSN TV Guide and MSN Search?
